Swimming Lesson FAQs
When does your school operate?
AquaKidz is a seasonal swim school that runs in spring and summer (Term 4 and Term 1), Monday to Friday. Lessons run 8am–12pm and 2:30pm–6:30pm (until 7pm during daylight saving). See our Term Dates page for this season's dates.
Which areas do you visit?
We teach in home pools across Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, including Bellevue Hill, Bondi, Dover Heights, Vaucluse, Rose Bay, Point Piper, Double Bay, Woollahra, North Bondi, Bronte, Tamarama, Clovelly and Coogee. Our most popular areas are Bellevue Hill, Bondi, Dover Heights and Vaucluse. Not sure if we cover your street? Please get in touch and we'll let you know.
How big does my pool need to be?
For Water Babies and Water Safety, your pool should be over 5m long with step entry. For Learn to Swim and Stroke Correction, it should be over 8m long with a shallow and a deep end. Every home pool is different, so if you're unsure, send us a photo when you enquire.
What temperature should my pool be?
The ideal temperature for learning to swim is above 28°C, especially for children under 5. Children who are already swimming strokes can manage a slightly cooler pool, around 26°C. Cooler pools are usually fine in the peak of summer (December to February), but on rainy days we recommend above 28°C.
What equipment do I need to provide?
Just your pool. Our teacher brings all the learning equipment, including kickboards, noodles and diving toys. Goggles: home pools don't have the high chlorine levels of public pools and big swim schools, so we encourage goggles only once your child is water safe. Long hair: please tie long hair in a tight bun or ponytail. Swim caps are optional if hair is tied up well.
Do you teach on rainy days?
Yes, lessons go ahead in light rain, but are cancelled for storms and lightning. Weather is a big factor for outdoor mobile lessons, which is why we're a seasonal swim school. If your child would rather not swim in the rain, just let us know, and see our cancellation policy.
What level is my child at?
We'll help you work it out when you enrol. A quick phone chat is usually enough to place your child in the right level. If not, we can do a 5-minute assessment ($10) or assess during a full lesson (charged at the normal lesson price).
Do you offer Stroke Correction?
Yes. Stroke correction is part of our Learn to Swim levels, so check the level descriptions to see which suits your child. We also offer Squad Transition, which refines all four strokes and technique for children getting ready for squad.
How much do swimming lessons cost?
All prices are per 30-minute lesson: one-on-one $60; shared (2 children) $70 in total; group (3 or more children) $30 per child; Water Babies $20 per child (runs with a minimum of 4 and maximum of 8 babies). 45-minute lessons can be booked at 1.5 times the 30-minute price.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel morning lessons by the night before and afternoon lessons by 12pm on the day, otherwise the lesson is charged at the full rate. We understand things come up, like sickness, a broken pool or weather, and these times let Adam move lessons around or offer the spot to our waitlist. Please email cancellations to adam@aquakidz.com.au so the lesson can be credited for a make-up or deducted from next term's fees. If one child can't attend a shared lesson and the lesson still goes ahead, no credit applies, as the minimum lesson cost is $60 per 30 minutes. Lessons cancelled in advance under this policy are credited.
Do you offer make-up lessons?
Yes. We do our best to offer a make-up lesson during the term, as long as the cancellation policy has been followed. Any prepaid lessons that can't be made up are credited to the next term.
